Getting My Geek Roast On!

I had the pleasure of getting roasted Saturday night at the Seattle Geek Roast to help roast Nick’s cancer. The picture above is from me standing on stage as Chris Pirillo gave roasting me his best shot. It was super fun, and he was very kind (and funny thanks Chris). Thanks to everyone else who roasted me too, along with TriFilm and Brotherton Cadillac for matching all of the donations raised during my roast.

It was a night full of inspiration as Peter Chee, the Chief Pot Stirrer at ThinkSpace, helped bring the online world together to raise money to help one of his employees Alyssa and her husband Nick raise money to fight and beat his battle with cancer (picture below).

They were non stop smiles even when explaining their story of how Nick is starting his journey to fight and kick booty on this cancer, along with what this whole event and massive support means to them.

I loved hanging out with all of my online, offline, TV friends (Hi Jeff! <— Nick’s dad and big fan of KIRO 7, now one of my favorite viewers ever). Bill Wixey from Q13 and a Cancer survivor was in the house. He opened the night on the microphone and Brian Westbrook @BMW rocked the microphone as emcee. He was a hoot and worked so well with Larry the wonderful auctioneer.

The crowd did need some tissues during some points in the night, especially when My Tam Nguyen came up on stage. She is one of my dear friends and in the middle of kicking Cancer’s butt right now. She didn’t know Nick before this event but wanted to bring his story to life with the face of someone who is going through what he’s about to go through. She spoke about her journey since she was diagnosed in May this year and nailed down how amazing it is when people do even the smallest things to show their support.

Cheers to amazing people coming together to rally for others causes.

Here are more of the photos from the night from Brandon Bleek Photography.

Thanks Pete for organizing this wonderful event. Thanks Brian and Chris for letting me attempt to roast you. Thanks to all of my wonderful BTF’s (best twitter friends) who roasted me and made me smile from ear to ear, AND mostly thanks to all of you for being in my world!

Jenni, last night went way beyond what I had hoped for. I can’t thank you enough for being a part of the event. You have an amazing energy, sincere heart for people and brought a ton of enthusiasm that helped keep me going. I’m so thankful for the introduction to My Tam. She’s a wonderful person and I’m blessed to have spent an hour talking with her on the phone a week before the event. I would have to say over the last two whirlwind weeks of planning this event, the memories that I will cherish the most are the individual conversations that I got to have with a handful of special people like My Tam. The human heart and spirit is all that matters… you can take everything else away.
